Well it
was back to Badger Drain, and to hopefully try our
luck with some of it's larger occupants. Today Wink
and I were joined by Chris, which in recent times
has been a bit of a rarity due to him lacking in
enthusiasm; just lucky for him that Wink and I have
so much of the stuff that it's contagious! We
started off in our little hotspot and it didn't take
long for Chris to hook a large fish that proceeded
to slip the
hooks; certainly a moment to just turn and walk away.
Wink then proceeded to land a couple of 8lb'ers.
I then
cast a bait that I had never used before - a Pollen.
Now I was told that these things are supposed to be
buoyant, so unless I never grasped the meaning of
"buoyant" as a kid, I expected it to float
and was quite surprised to watch
it sink like a brick! Only I could get a faulty
bloody deadbait! Anyway, I soon forgave the
malfunctioning bait as it soon caught me my first
fish of the session, a Pike of 16 on the nose.
This
turned out to be the end of the action, but we soon
had our attentions diverted elsewhere. All across
the Drain prey fish started to top, something we had
yet to see on this venue. This was very interesting
as we had been wondering what on earth all these
plump Pike had been feeding on. Some of the topping
fish looked very sizeable, and it has to be said
that I think they were Roach. Perhaps this could be
where my first "2" may come from; I know one thing,
the maggot feeder's definitely coming along for the
ride next time! |
