After
some decent Perch, I was well and truly up for
targeting the Predators. Traditionally the Pike
season should have been well and truly under way,
but what with the extremely warm temperatures, the
first frosts were no where in sight. It was this
extremely warm weather that made our target species
an obvious choice! The year before I had made a
couple of half hearted trips out after Zander;
attempting to target them with Lures. These past
sessions had only turned up multiple Pike, with no
Zander fourth coming however.
Winky,
Friend Chris Hammond and myself decided on trying
once again for the first time in the year. Past
sessions had seen us fish in the daytime, and seeing
as these sessions had been poor for Zander, we
decided on staying in to darkness. This did the
trick, and before long Chris was in on a Rapala
Super Shad lure. This turned out to be a fin perfect
fish of just over 7lb.
We
decided to work the area for a bit longer, and
before long Chris and I could hear Wink in the
background saying "I think I've got one!". This
turned out to be an understatement as when we turned
we instantly saw a decent Zed on the surface by the
side of the boat. Now baring in mind he had only
ever caught one before at 4lb 1oz, you can imagine
he was reasonably pleased when we weighed in a new
PB for him at 8lb 14oz!
We
fished on in hope that we would empty the place, but
no more Zeds were up for it this night. The night
had been a success, but the journey home was a
killer; well at least it was for wink and me, Chris
had met us over an hour into our journey so got out
of the late finish. Light weight....
