For the
past few years, I have been telling myself that this
season "I'll do more Zander fishing!". Well, so far
I haven't kept to my word, and as usual, I have been
side tracked constantly. This season though, I
really do hope to get out and target them a little
more. They are one of my firm favourites in our
waters, but due to their anti-social feeding times,
I have trouble fitting them in regularly.
With my
French trip to Nash Resorts looming, I had decided
on a quick hit session to see if I could get myself
a couple before I left the following weekend.
Myself, Winky and Chris arrived at our chosen venue
just before dusk, and as usual I was given the job
of chief livebait snatcher. This can in itself be a
nightmare at times, but luckily within 30 minutes I
had bagged enough 5" Rudd for an evening session.
Due
to the still intense weed, all rods were rigged up
with free running sunken paternosters, with the
baits fished about three feet off of the bottom.
Wink was the first one in, but this soon turned out
to be an Eel around 2lb with a 5" Rudd hanging from
its gob! The next run came one of my rods. The
drop-off fell and line steadily left the open bale
arm, an instant strike was made, and after a pretty
unspectacular fight, I soon landed a nice fish of
7lb 8oz.
Straight after this fish, Chris lost a decent fish
and then Wink latched into a smaller fish of around
6lb. After this however, everything went quiet, and
the Zeds just disappeared. This is often the case
with Zander, often you won't receive a bite for a
long period of time, and then out of the blue action
can start on all rods. I really must get out for
them more often! |
