After
last weeks Chub session, I decided that I really
fancied another go, but this time with a few extra
pints of maggots! So it was off to the tackle shop
and time to purchase 8 pints of maggots. I was
planning this session to be for gathering photo's
for an article that will be out in Coarse Fisherman
late October. I was joined by Mark this week; he had
done very little chubing apart from a bit of small
stream stalking in the past so was well up for it.
We
arrived at the exact same swim as the week before
and began to feed maggots; almost instantly chub
could be spotted boiling by the surface. As time
went on we noticed that the Chub were not the only
fish gorging on the maggots; a small Brown Trout had
also joined in and was devouring them even quicker
than the Chub.
After
about an hour and a half we began to fish, but it
wasn't to be as hectic as the week before. Mark took
the first cast and landed a Chub in excess of 3lb; I
then made my cast and landed a Chub that would have
made a decent Perch livebait.... On Marks next cast
he hooked another Chub, this one being around the
2lb stamp. another couple this size followed before
sport completely dried up. It was very surprising
that the fish did not continue to feed as we
certainly had not stopped the heavy feeding with
maggots. The only thing I can think of that may have
possibly caused the action to end so suddenly, was
the fact that we did not rest the swim very long
after each fish.
Unfortunately after trying to be clever and get fish
shots in the water, the few Chub we had caught soon
left us looking like a couple of fools as they
escaped our clutches before the camera had a chance
to do the deed. Anyway, it was another good fun
session which we learnt from never the less. |
