18/11/06 - Pit Piking

I spent today roaming around a Syndicate venue that I first joined back at the start of the season. This was my first session on this water to check out its Pike potential. I soon discovered that it did at least contain Pike. After the first couple of hours I had soon landed six small jacks to 8lb from the first spot. This area soon dried up, and at the same time I guessed that with all the activity from the Jacks, the bigger girls were likely to be hanging a bit further along the pit. With this i soon moved further down and began the process of all over again.

By around midday I had covered around half the pit, but unfortunately no more Pike had graced the banks. All my fish during the morning rush had fallen to Mackerel and Lamprey, so I had been sticking to these baits on both my rods. However, a change over to turbo smelts soon created more action and even though none of the fish were anything over 9lb or so, I finished the day with 11 Pike.

The results were promising, as at least I know that there are defiantly Pike in the water; unfortunately it will take a few more sessions to work out if there are any of a decent size, but I'll keep trying!
