After
the June 16th disaster, I knew I needed to go get my
early season Rudd fix as soon as I could! For the
last few seasons, I had already notched up a decent
head of 2's and a 3 by now, so I was already falling
short. I had planned on roving (complete with
110liter Rucksack....) to try and locate some of the
large fish I knew were hiding in the now very murky
water. I was expecting things to be very difficult,
as the weather had been very bad, and though we had
not received a great deal of flooding, the water was
the colour of tea, making visual stalking and
location a non starter.
I
decided that I would attempt to hop between
different sets of marginal Lillie pads and drop a
float in alongside them; baiting with micro pellet
and corn with corn on the hook. This turned out to
have the desired effect, and before long a tell tale
Rudd bite saw me striking into my first big Rudd of
the year at 2lb 8oz. I knew from that instant that I
had missed out during opening day, as I knew where
they would have been, never mind....
Unfortunately the mother of all thunderstorms moved
in very fast and put an end to any more fishing. I had a bankstick struck
by lightning a few years back just after I had
finished playing a carp, and I must say it woke me
up to just how dangerous mother nature can be at
times. I baited with pellet and corn in the same
area and planned to return the next evening. |
