Today's
session was nothing more than an attempt to land
Winky's girlfriend's brother Kim his first
Carp. He was over with his family from his native
home of Sweden and had seen pictures of some of wink
and my previous fish and fancied a crack at it. Wink
and I both knew that our best chance of success in a
limited time would be a local day ticket water, so
decided on this as our chosen venue. Our game plan
was to let Kim catch on whatever rod received a
take, but in usual "Matt and Winky" fashion, we had
to make sure we went home with one under our belts.
On
arrival there was little activity and the lake
looked quite dead, but after past experiences on
this water we were confident of getting some action.
Our first port of call was to get out a couple of
ledgers with our usual technique of ledgered
8mm halibut pellets. This rig absolutely empties
this water in comparison to rigs baited with boilies
and other baits.
With the rods out and in the waiting position, I
decided to try speed up the waiting process by
having a look round the lake flinging small pieces
of floating crust into the margins. Before long I
had a Common happily taking the crust no more than a
foot from the bank. I grabbed Kim and showed him the
Carp feeding, he then lowered a piece of crust in
the margin and within seconds he was in. It wasn't
long before Kim was looking down at his first Carp,
a nice Common of about 7lb.
Come
the end of the near 3 hour session, Kim had landed one
more Carp and lost a couple. Whilst Wink had managed
to land a little Tench and a Ghostie and I had landed a
little Mirror which must have taken my bait as I had
picked the rod up to wind in! It had been far from a
serious session, but was a good laugh and also was
good to hear the one toners once again. I think Kim
had enjoyed himself, although whether he'll be out
kitting himself up with fishing gear is another
story! |
