21/10/07 - Vertical Perching

After cottoning onto the effectiveness of Vertical Jigging the previous week, I had decided that I wanted a full session doing just that. This was a method i had heard loads about in the past, but I had never been presented with a venue suitable to - or so I thought - to carry out the method on. The water i was fishing topped out at 25 feet deep, but considering the venue reached 20 foot plus yards from the bank, it was perfectly suited to the method.

With a fresh stock of Fox Chubby Shads, Twin Tails and some new Pro Logic Shads, My Dad, Wink and myself set out to try and unlock the Perch potential of the venue further. Straight from the off things looked good as Dad very quickly picked up a 1lb 8oz fish on a 3" Chubby Shad. This fish was followed all the way to the top by two other good fish, which soon disappeared back into the depths. From there on, we all started to add many more Perch to the tally, with the majority being around the 1lb 8oz mark.

Wink soon upped his previous weeks 1lb 11oz PB with a 1lb 12oz fish to a small twin tail. Not longer after, while talking about Wink taking yet another PB, myself and Wink had a double hook up. Looking over the boat in the clear water we could quite clearly see two decent perch coming up from the bottom. When in the net it was quite apparent Wink had landed yet another PB. On the scales my fish went 1lb 11oz and Winks ended up being another Personal Best of 1lb 15oz. Both fish fell to small 3" Chubby Shads jigged just on bottom.

We had made an early start, and by 12pm we decided to call it a day. Hopefully there would be more larger fish to come the coming week when I was planning on returning!
