Just
recently I seem to have become totally addicted to
Vertical Jigging. During the previous weeks
attempts, all of the fish caught on the method have come in no
less than twenty feet of water, with the main reason
for this me thinking that fish would be spooked in
the shallower water. On arriving at my Jigging water
today, I was soon concerned about the weather. In
the past weeks, the water had been surprisingly flat
calm making drifting around on the boat perfect for
the method; today though was very different with
extremely high winds.
This
left us only one choice, we were going to have to
moor the boat up tight against the marginal rushes
in six feet of water and cast lures from there.
After mooring in a sheltered area of the reservoir
we began to cast lures, but unfortunately very
little occurred. Both myself and Wink sat down and
wondered whether the weather was going to beat us
and if we should just pack up and leave; however....
Just when we were getting despondent, a couple of
half hearted jigs underneath the boat by Wink, soon
resulted in a PB equalling Perch of 1lb 15oz; not
bad for Vertical Jigging in 6 feet of water we
thought!
I then
decided to try the same, and within minutes of the
first I had also landed a nice fish of 1lb 13oz. The
rest of the morning went by pretty uneventfully, and
although another Perch of the same weight to my last
was landed, the weather had totally ruined our
plans.
I knew
this would be my last attempt on the venue for a
while, as my Pike fishing on Blithfield Reservoir
was soon to start. With any luck a monster Pike was
soon to be on the cards!
