3/06/07 - Ressie Carping

After landing a new PB common off the surface a couple of weeks ago, I really fancied trying to land another biggie to the same tactics.  I knew there was still a very large Mirror to be had, as well as another few decent back up fish.  After walking the ressie for a while, continuously catapulting in mixers, I finally got a small group of carp feeding in a quiet bay.  This small group of Carp however, soon more than doubled in size and I soon got a very good look at just how many Carp were in the water, and it was just one bay!  As I continued to feed, I could clearly make out some very large fish cruising well below the surface feeders.  before long though, one or two of these began to show some interest, and after a good hour of feeding I made my cast to a good Mirror.

No sooner had my artificial mixer hit the water, a mid double Mirror shot out of no where and proceeded to pretty much hook itself!  After a decent scrap that saw every fish in the swim disappear in a matter of seconds, I netted a Mirror at just over 14lb. It was a stunning looking fish, but certainly not the one I was after!

After this disturbance the floater fishing dried up. I had brought a couple of ledger rods with me just in case, so I baited with sweetcorn on both rods and baited two spots with hemp and a little corn. About an hour later a one toner signalled a bad little ghostie of just over 10lb, with almost immediately after that a similar sized Mirror to the other rod.

The day had been fun, although it won't be long before I'm back to catch one of the larger specimens!
