After
the last session when Chris showed us a new water to
try, Wink and I had decided that we would try an
early morning till lunchtime session on the same
venue. We arrived very early in the morning and
decided to start from where we had landed the fish
during the last session. We both sat back more
excited than I think we had been in a long time. It
certainly didn't take long for the action to start
either, and before wink had a chance to put his rod
down after the first cast, the float had gone! Once
again a strong fight was given, and for the 3rd time
in less than a week Wink was starring down at
another PB of 15lb 11oz. We continued in the same
spot for a little longer and Wink managed a couple
more near doubles before we decided to leap frog
down a little.
This
paid off for me, and no sooner had I cast, my float
disappeared and then re-appeared as something
dropped my bait. I then twitched the bait towards me
a little and let it settle, causing whatever was
watching to grab my bait before it could get away.
This fish was relatively small, but proved the
effectiveness of twitching a bait. We soon found
ourselves leap frogging again, and this is when I
finally found some better fish. On my first cast in
the new swim I lost a decent fish from the off, then
the next cast a decent fish was hooked and after a
good fight, a 16lb'er was banked. Happy with our
brace of decent doubles, I recast the same bait and
watched as the float slid away in exactly the same
spot for the third time. This time a much longer
fish with larger head was brought to the bank, but
it lacked the incredible girth all the other fish
had. On the scales she went 14lb 8oz.
We
continued on until lunch and managed to cover around
5% of the water we had available to us. During this
time we landed nine fish and lost a couple each,
with a couple being good fish. Having a water like
this to fish was amazing, Chris had really put us
onto something special. Thing was, we had no idea
what to call the place. On the way home we saw
something that to us was nearly as good as catching
the Pike; a badger running across the road (Note I
said running, not flat!).
There
could only be one name for the place - Badger Drain |
