9/12/06 - Not too Windy then!

Today turned out to be one of those very rare days where I actually felt to ill to get out of bed and go fishing. Wink and I had arranged to get down the banks and have a try for some Pike at a local Drain at first light, so when I texted to say I wasn't going to make it at 5am, he was quite disappointed. Wink is still getting to grips with the whole Pike handling thing, so I felt bad as I knew he wouldn't venture out by himself. In the end I gave in and decided to head out with him a bit later in the day, still feeling awful.

To top the day off the weather was awful, and what with the lashing rain, gale force winds and a constantly running nose, I must confess to feeling a little insane for even bothering to head out in it. We both cast a couple of ledgers and retired to the comfort of the brolly, only for me to have to run out instantly to a run on a lamprey. Now bearing in mind Winks PB is 8lb, he wasn't overly impressed when we were both staring down at a 16lb'er; yet another potential PB I had caught in front of him. I must confess to feeling that I didn't deserve that fish after letting him down in the morning, but that's the way fishing, and especially Piking, goes. When all's said and done, if you stick a bait near a feeding Pike, the likelihood is that it's going to take the bait, it just so happened that my rushed cast had hit the mark. Unfortunately this Pike managed to avoid the paparazzi, as it performed some kind of somersault out of my landing net whilst I was resting it!

That turned out to be the only fish of the day. Lucky we caught anything though to be honest, I thought we stood more chance of being blown over the drain than actually catching!
