Carp
fishing isn't one of my favourite pastimes, but when
it's doing it a little differently, I can soon
change my mind. The ressie I have been Perch fishing
in recent months has a low stock of Carp, but bank
fishing it is a nightmare due to seriously overgrown
banks. However when you have a pair of chest waders,
gardening sheers and 48inch extendable storm poles
as banksticks, nothing is impossible!
Pre-baiting heavy with particle mix and 20mm
Dynamite Marine Halibut Boilies, I soon had the fish
where I wanted them. The Carp were not were not rig
shy, were not suspicious of any bait; in a nut
shell, I suppose you could say they were pretty damn
stupid really! In a water of around 12 acres though,
it was all about location, and the effort to prebait
was well worth the extra hassle to make the most of
my sessions.
I'm
not sure how many fish I landed, but it was a good
number, with the average weighing in at around
mid-double. This was topped by a new Personal Best
Common Carp weighing in at a very pleasing 25lb 6oz.
The majority of fish were scaley Mirrors, as well as
the odd Ghostie, leather and a couple of lovely
looking fully scaled fish.
Fishing for Carp from the comfort of the bank on a
crowded lake isn't really my cup of tea, but
standing up to my chest in water in a quiet bay,
playing carp right in front of me was really
enjoyable. Next year I will definitely be giving it
another go, not only to try for a larger fish, but
also out of curiosity to see how much larger the
fish have grown. An interesting fact was that my 25
pounder was stocked less than 2 years previous at
16, that's some growth rate! |
