Well,
as you have
probably guessed by me fitting in three weekends into one report, for
Ian and
myself, Blithfield didn't turn up anything spectacular. It's fair to
say that
we were presented with very difficult conditions every weekend bar the
last
one, from snow melt through to freezing fog so bad that we needed my
mobile
phones GPS just to navigate around the reservoir.
A handful of good fish were landed by others during our time there, but
all Ian
and I managed to locate was jack after jack pike. Ian did manage
another mid
double, this fish falling to a trolled Reef Digger, a lure of around
12"
long!
Even though our catch rate was poor, we did learn an awful lot. Neither
of us
had ever trolled deadbaits, nor had we trolled lures ultra slowly along
the
bottom in 50 feet plus of water. Learning tactics like this made our
sessions
very productive in that respect, but the only problem now is we are
going to
have to wait until later on in the year before we can put them into
practice
again.
One of the main things I learnt about the sessions over at Blith, was
that the
Saturday evening’s festivities may need to be quieted down a
little bit more
come next season. I am only too happy to a have a drink or two (or
three), but
I really don't fish to effectively when I’m asleep in the
front
of the boat
without a rod in the water!
Blith is still very much a water that excites me every time I go out
afloat on
it. Fishing away, knowing the next take could be from an unknown
monster is
what fishing’s all about. I just hope that either Ian or
myself
manage to hook
into one of these beasts next time.
